Have a Concrete Delivery? Don’t Forget These Tips!
We’ve all seen concrete trucks and drums turning as the drivers go to the next job. You could’ve hired a concrete supplier, and they are rushing to your place next. Since they have a limited time to deliver that concrete, the question is, are you ready?
Take time planning for a concrete driveway or garden project. Don’t hesitate to move around a few centimeters. Make sure you maintain an even ratio and measure after each move. To help you out, here are other things you have to prepare:
- Get measurements of your chosen shed or carport. Before you get the shed to your site, you can measure up a sample or get the specifications off the Internet.
- Work out the depth you need. Get this information from your local authorities, but a rule of thumb is 10cm deep, with 3-5cm extra if the area needs to support a heavy vehicle.
- Depending on the size of the building, either dig with a shovel or dig out the area to the depth needed for the concrete slab.
- Place your form around the edges and check to ensure that the area is big enough to fit your proposed building onto the form on the outside.
- Compact the soil with a compactor, either a mechanical or a manual one. Flatten the area as much as possible. Use the same pressure to do the entire block and concentrate the compaction on areas you had to backfill.
- Suppose you live in a geologically unstable area. In that case, it is also recommended that you put some reinforcement wire into your concrete, which is very much optional in a small building.
